A Vietnamese town which is soaked in tradition, Mai Chau is a charming, peaceful settlement located between the lush green valleys of Northern Vietnam. The ethic minorites who occupy this rare haven boast a unique culture and blend of history which is comfortably nested with a host of modern amenities to accommodate visitors. As soon as you meander down into the valleys, you will transcend into the ‘city of fog’, Mai Chau’s most prominent village which resides under the mountainous precipitation. You will initially be incapsulated by the welcoming locals outside the stilt houses, who may invite you to perch on the flower mats and share stem wine, bamboo tube rice and grilled meat with them. You will also be able to pick up a few handmade souvenirs from these friendly citizens while being treated to a spectacle of tradional ehnic dancing. As the aromas of grilled chicken, steamed fish and phrynium leaves linger through the air during the evening, you can watch the local Thai people dazzle you with their fervid rhythms known as sap dancing. At the end of each song, your landlord may invite you into a corner to indulge in yet more stem wine.
